A self-assessment tax return preparation service for letting agents to sell to their landlord clientsWe have now launched our new landlord tax services.
This is a service for letting agents to re-sell to their landlords.
This effectively gives letting agents an additional service that they can charge landlords for as part of their regular service agreement with them. It also will make them stand out from their competitors by offering an additional service the others do not.
The way that the service works is that the letting agent would agree with individual landlords to undertake personal self-assessment tax return preparation, including the property calculations, for a specific set charge.
The work will then be passed over to, and carried out by, our practice for a lower set charge thereby enabling the letting agent to make a profit on each transaction.
For example, if the cost was to be set at £250 plus VAT to the landlord, with a charge from ourselves of £200 plus VAT, each transaction would then make the letting agents £50. If you multiply this by a take-up of, say, 100 landlords, is £5,000. This is an additional income from the same client base.
We will supply some standard marketing literature to be sent to landlords, which could be used or adapted by letting agents in order to promote the service and obtain signups.
In order to prepare the tax returns we would then send out a standard questionnaire for completion by the landlords and subsequently return alongside the letting agent information regarding the properties that they manage so that we can prepare tax returns from this.
Once everything is agreed and finalised the returns will be submitted to HM revenue and Customs and the landlord advised of their tax liabilities so that they can make payment in the usual way.
